Position: Airport Manager Classification: Exempt, Full-time

Department: Ravalli County Airport Reports to: Ravalli County BCC

Salary Range: $50,000 $60,000 annually

Job Summary:

The Airport Manager is responsible for the general maintenance and management of the Ravalli County Airport. This position performs a variety of duties associated with the operation of the airport. The Airport Manager has frequent contact with the public, contractors, leasers, the Board of County Commissioners, the Airport Advisory Board and various governmental agencies.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

None.

Travel Required:

Travel between Ravalli County buildings is required.

Duties/Responsibilities:

General Maintenance

o Conducts frequent inspection of airport and operating facilities and equipment.

o Inspects visual approach slope indicators, runway lights, pilot keyed runway light device and airport beacon.

o Maintains airport for safe operation including:

o Maintaining buildings and grounds

o Cutting grass

o Plowing snow

o Sweeping runway

o Services and repairs airport equipment as needed.

Management

  • Serves as County Representative at the Ravalli County Airport.
  • Enforces airport Rules and Regulations and as defined in the Airport Rules and Regulations handbook.
  • Requests Notices to Airmen when necessary.
  • Make recommendations to Commissioners regarding airport closing due to unsafe conditions.
  • Attends FAA and Montana Aviation meetings/conferences and disseminates pertinent information.
  • Serves as liaison with the Ravalli County Commissioners regarding property and hangar leasing.
  • Assists in the establishment and collection of airport fees (i.e. tie down fees, fuel flowage fees.
  • Assists in securing subcontractors as needed and monitors quality and completion of work performed.
  • Maintains accurate records and prepares accurate and timely reports.

Required Skills/Abilities:

Must be reliable and conscientious.

Knowledge of mechanics, electricity, aviation operations, safety regulations, and state and federal regulations pertaining to airport operations.

Ability to operate and maintain maintenance equipment.

Ability to work independently with little supervision.

Ability to communicate effectively in written and verbal formats.

Ability to deal tactfully with the public.

Ability and willingness to work flexible hours and in adverse weather conditions.

Willingness to be on-call and report as needed.

Ability to manage multiple tasks and effectively handle stressful situations.

Valid Montana Drivers License and reliable transportation.

Required Education and Experience:

Must possess the skills and demonstrated experience to perform all responsibilities listed.

High School Diploma or equivalent.

Five (5) years experience in maintaining and operating heavy machinery.

Preferred Education and Experience:

Experience in management and/or airport operations preferred.

Work Environment:

Both office and field working conditions; work environment will consist of seasonal weather to include adverse weather conditions.

Airfield environment; work around construction equipment and aircraft; exposure to noise, and inclement weather conditions.

May require work after hours or on weekends, dependent on weather or other needs for airport safety.

Physical Requirements:

May require maintaining physical condition necessary for heavy, moderate to light lifting.

Walking, standing or sitting for prolonged periods.

Operating motorized equipment and vehicles.
