As a successful Fiber Splicer, you will be responsible for proper preparation and splicing of fiber optic cable within a telecommunications system. You possess a good working knowledge of telecommunications network structure; familiarity with fiber optic cable, splice enclosures and the functionality of each; ability to use OTDR and fusion splicing equipment; ability to read fiber matrices; ability to interpret and analyze data; and ability to identify and troubleshoot problems. This position will need to work and travel around the West Virginia market. Essential Responsibilities include reading, understanding, interpreting, inputting, and analyzing data with a high degree of accuracy and completeness; operating technical equipment including computer, OTDR and fusion splicing equipment for single and ribbon fiber; completing labor-intensive tasks and operating assigned construction equipment; completing daily production reports; using hand tools, ladders, and equipment to assist in project completion; cleaning and maintaining supplies, tools, equipment, and work areas; lifting and manipulating splice enclosures and other plant and equipment; working in cramped and/or enclosed spaces; working aloft from ladders, aerial lifts, or by gaffing. Qualifications include a combination of work experience and/or technical training in an industry-related trade certification or education program; knowledge of health, safety and environmental protection practices; proficiency in hand tools and equipment used in splicing fiber; ability to operate company vehicles; ability to guide safe work practices; ability to use Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook; and must pass pre-access drug and alcohol requirements and maintain a clean driver’s abstract and valid full driver’s license. Working conditions include physically demanding tasks, ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions, and ability to work with little supervision while following safety policies.
